We are a growing number of like minded parents who have formed an informal supporters' group for our daughters and the rowing section as a whole.  We meet on the river banks during rowing events, provide encouragement for the rowers - perhaps some refreshment at events, have a meeting point for the parents and supporters of new and existing rowers, with the emphasis of fun along the way.

Rowing is an expensive sport with the costs of the boathouse, transport, coaching and race entry fees to take into account. Therefore, we as parents and friends do our bit to raise some additional funds to help with the purchase of additional equipment. This is not a substitute to the schools funding but entirely independent of the school.

We are aiming to raise £10,000 this year for Mick Deards (head coach) to decide how to spend the money best. This would be in addition to school funding and will provide the girls with equipment on a par with the other schools and clubs against whom the girls compete.

A real difference could be made with little effort on our behalf. many thanks to thse parents who have agreed to join in. Please encourage others. Offers to help and ideas are always welcome in our quest for fundraising. It is hoped that as many parents as possible will join us in helping to provide the rowers with more opportunity at all levels of rowing.

Bag Packing at Sainsbury's

On the evening of Friday 17th March, FoBHSBC continued their fundraising efforts. 32 girls from the Bedford High rowing squad, in full rowing kit, helped to pack customers bags (hopefully) in return for a small donation at Sainsbury’s in  Bedford. The evening was a huge success and much needed funds were raised.  Many thanks to all involved.

Rowing Ball

As a result of the fantastic ball attended by over 140 people in Bedford High's main school hall, in excess of £3,600 was raised. The FoBHSbc are now able to purchase their first boat (£8, 500) after just 5 months of fundraising. This is due entirely to the hard work and determination of the rowing parents and supporters.

The ball was a huge success and everyone had a great time dancing the night away to the LA Nights. The main hall was tranformed, based on a "rowing" theme. Mr Deards was even spotted sporting a DJ!

It is hoped that a ball CD will be avaliable at a later date, once Wendy has recieved sufficient bribes in order to prevent the release of what I am told, is some rather embarrasing evidence...
