Birmingham Regatta - 6th May

Bedford High sent 2 crews, a WJ16.4x and a WJ15.8x+ to this event. The octo did very well and won their event. However, despite leading for most of the race, equipment failure meant the WJ16.4x crew were disqualified for straying out of their lane. A very disappointing outcome.

Bedford Head - 9th April

During the Easter holiday girls from the boat club competed in the Bedford small boats head which is the last processional racing event of the 2005-6 season.

Our crews produced several wins despite the disruption of the Easter holidays.  Wins came from Emily Piggott in WS.4 single who was then joined by Dani Hinckley to win WS.4 double sculls. Ruth Horler produced a further single sculls win in the women’s novice event.

In the women’s novice coxed quad event Toni Hollowood, Helen Tredget, Katie Kedward and Mel James steered by Jess Owen returned an excellent scull to win their event. Once again this win demonstrates the strength in depth of an exceptional year group.

After time out with injury Ellie Piggott combined on the day with upper 5’s Hannah George and Chloe and Sophie Symmonds to compete in WJ16 coxless Quads. The girls won their event with ease even having time for a interlude at the Town Bridge due to obstruction. This crew also were the fastest women’s crew of the day soundly beating numerous senior crews.

Well done also to the Novice coxed four of Portia Higgs, Charlotte Eales, Lucia Colendangelo and Laura Curtin, who in a completely untried combination finished just 10 seconds behind the winners of their event.

Also a total of 12 girls from lower & upper 5 raced in the WJ16 singles event producing aggressive and creditworthy performances. In particular well done to Laura Versnel, Cat Stenhouse, Hannah George and Charlotte McClean.

Boston Head - 22nd January

Bedford High win 3 events at Boston Head.

On 22nd January, Bedford High entered 5 crews into their first event of the New Year. It was a timed head of the river event, over 3 km on the river Witham. Conditions were much improved from last year's bitterly cold event, with only a slight head wind, and flat waters. All high school crews performed very well, and recorded wins in 3 categories as well as strong second places in a further 2 events.

In WJ15 4x+, where the High had 2 entrants, the quad of Eleanor Piggott, Charlotte Maclean, Emma Havens and Cat Stenhouse, steered by Maria Legrotallie, put in a solid performance to finish first. The other Bedford High quad of Rachael Meredith, Charlie Eales, Lucy Williams, and Laura Versnel coxed by Hayley Thomas put in another strong performance to finish second, significantly ahead of the next crew.

The senior crew of Emily Piggott, Beki Yeomans, Katie Blackett and Dani Hinckley, steered by Jess Owen, competed in the WS3 4+, winning the event by nearly a minute.

The High School were also entered in 2 single sculls events, WJ15 and WJ18. Eleanor Piggott won the WJ15 category and Emily Piggott and Dani Hinckley finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the WJ18 event. Well done to all the crews involved.
